Karen Perez, Principal
Dear Wicklund Elementary Community,
It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I introduce myself as your Principal. My journey to Wicklund Elementary has been one fueled by a passion for education and a deep commitment to fostering equity and inclusion in our school community.
My career in education began at a Child Development Center in Los Angeles county in 2001 working with infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children. Upon earning my teaching credential in 2004, I taught English, History, Government, and Economics in the bay area. I have always been driven by a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of young learners, believing in a strengths-based approach with each individual student.
As my career progressed, I transitioned into the role of a school counselor, where I had the privilege of supporting students in navigating academic and personal challenges. It was during this time that I became deeply invested in the holistic well-being of our students, recognizing the critical importance of addressing both their academic and socio-emotional needs, spanning from their first experiences with school until high school graduation day.
In 2016, I joined the Lammersville Unified School District, where I served as the Alternative Education Coordinator and later as a Vice Principal at the high school level. These roles provided me with invaluable opportunities to lead initiatives aimed at creating inclusive and supportive learning environments for all students.
My academic journey has been one marked by a commitment to lifelong learning. I earned my master's degree in Educational Counseling from San Jose State University, and I obtained my clear Administrative credential from UC Berkeley College of Education, with a specialization in leadership for social justice and equity.
As your Principal, I am deeply committed to ensuring that every student at Wicklund Elementary receives a high-quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. Together with our dedicated staff and supportive community, I am confident that we can create a school where every student feels valued, empowered, and inspired to reach their full potential.
When I am not at Wicklund, I call Livermore home, where I cherish the time with my family. After school hours, you will often find me strolling through the neighborhood on my evening walks, hiking local trails enjoying time with nature, or planning my next travel adventure. As a parent of two teenagers, I find immense fulfillment in nurturing and encouraging them as they explore their passions (fishing and soccer,) and celebrating them as they discover who they are.
I am honored to serve as your principal and look forward to partnering with each of you in the pursuit of excellence and equity in education.
Warm regards,
Ms. Perez Principal, Wicklund Elementary School
